• Creates a new category of leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act allowing eligible employees to take up to 8 hours per 30-day period and 48 hours per 12-month period to participate in or attend their children's or grandchildren's school conferences and educational/extracurricular activities sponsored by schools or community organizations
• This parental involvement leave is explicitly additional to any other existing FMLA leave entitlements, may be taken intermittently or on a reduced schedule, and requires at least 7 days' notice to the employer
• The bill extends identical parental involvement leave provisions to federal employees under title 5 of the United States Code
