VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act of 2026
Summary:
• Directs the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to conduct an 18-month large-scale, mixed-methods, retrospective, observational study on the effects of cannabis on health outcomes of veterans with chronic pain and PTSD, to begin within 180 days of enactment
• If the study determines the VA can meet necessary criteria, requires the Secretary to carry out a series of clinical trials on the effects of cannabis on veterans with chronic pain and PTSD, commencing within 180 days of the study report's submittal
• Requires demographic representation reflecting the U.S. veteran population, data preservation for further research, anonymization of patient data, and ensures participants' other VA benefits are unaffected
