Bots Research Act
Summary:
• The "Bots Research Act" directs the FTC Chairman to establish a task force within 90 days to study the effects of automated accounts (bots) on social media, public discourse, and elections.
• The task force must include at least one expert each from the federal government, academia, non-profit organizations, and industry, all selected for expertise in automation technology, and members serve without pay or travel expenses.
• Within one year of establishment, the task force must submit a report to Congress and relevant federal agencies on its findings, including how to combat harmful bot use while protecting First Amendment rights.
