H.R. 2332
SHARE Act of 2026
Summary:
• The SHARE Act of 2026 authorizes the FBI to provide criminal history record information to State licensing authorities for conducting background checks on individuals seeking occupational or professional licenses under interstate compacts.
• State licensing authorities are prohibited from sharing criminal history record information with compact Commissions, other State entities, or the public, and may only use it for evaluating the specific license or privilege application.
• States are expressly permitted to inform compact Commissions only of whether a background check was completed and whether it was satisfactory — a binary pass/fail result — without sharing the underlying criminal history details.
