End Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act
Summary:
• Amends the Internal Revenue Code to postpone tax deadlines for U.S. nationals who are unlawfully or wrongfully detained abroad or held hostage abroad, with the same benefit extending to their spouses
• Requires the Secretary of the Treasury to abate and refund any tax penalties, interest, or additional amounts already assessed or collected from these individuals for the period of their detention or hostage situation
• Establishes a program to allow eligible individuals (or their spouses or dependents) to apply for refunds or abatements of tax penalties paid during the period from January 1, 2021 through the date of enactment
