S. 4974
Making America's Food Safer Act
Summary:
• Expands the accredited third-party certification program to include both foreign and domestic entities in the food supply chain, and allows certification results to be used for risk analysis and prioritizing inspections beyond just import determinations
• Authorizes the FDA to share unredacted food safety information (including foodborne illness data, lab testing results, inspectional findings, recall distribution lists, and consumer complaints) with State, local, Tribal, and territorial authorities
• Allows the Secretary of Health and Human Services to order destruction of import-refused food articles that present a significant public health concern, without allowing export, subject to due process protections for owners or consignees
